Being a self-published author is not easy. I don't pretend to know everything and I don't pretend to be super successful. But what I can do is offer can a few simple and easy tips that made my life easier and may work for you if you'd also like to become a self-published author.

1) RESPECT your editor

2) RESPECT your formatter

3) RESPECT your cover artist

4) RESPECT anyone who does anything for you. (Proofreaders, fellow authors, ARC readers, your street team, your newsletter subscribers, bloggers, PAs, VAs, etc.)

5) RESPECT your readers.

6) REMEMBER, readers don't owe you anything. They're giving up their free time to read and review your book. The reader/writer relationship is give and take. You give your readers a little love, they'll give you a little love in return. Not everyone, but the good ones will stick around. And while I understand that there will always be freebie hunters - those who want to take a free book and run - if you keep working hard enough to find those loyal readers, they will find you... especially if you follow rules 1-5 and build good ju-ju.

Success won't happen overnight. And I can promise you that it hasn't worked that way for me. But I feel good about the author I'm becoming and I'm proud to say that I know plenty of my readers by more than their name and face and last review on Amazon.

I feel good about the road I'm taking. And I'm excited to see where the next few months will take me.

So... This is Me. releases tomorrow and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. Though I'm not exactly sure what I'm so nervous about sometimes. I know that I'm still building a brand here, so I'm not expecting hundreds of sales, you know?

I guess... what I'm looking for is growth. I want to know that I'm always moving forward and that each time I publish a new book, I'll sell a little bit more than the last one, and hopefully get a few more new subscribers to my newsletter. That's really all I want, and even though I'm pretty sure that this book will do better than the last, there's always that feeling that it won't be enough, you know?

I put my heart and soul into my work and all I want is for some people to buy it... and maybe like it. Hehe, maybe even love it and want to try something else by me. That's really all I'm asking for. LOL... such a little thing, right?

But yeah, I just wanted to say that.
Tomorrow is release day... and I'll admit it... I'm nervous.
